You’ve probably warned your kids about drugs, but have you talked to them about Fentanyl?

What is Fentanyl?

LEARN MORE

Fentanyl is a prescription synthetic opioid used for severe pain during and after surgery, but not all fentanyl comes from a pharmacy.  Because it is so potent and cheap to make, illegal drug manufacturers are using fentanyl to make counterfeit pills that look like real medications.

Are counterfeit pills common in North Carolina?

LEARN MORE

Yes! If you buy a pill online or off the streets, it is most likely counterfeit and contains fentanyl.

If someone overdoses, how do I know and what do I do?

Signs of an opioid overdose may include:

  • unconsciousness or unresponsiveness (doesn’t wake up when shaken or called)
  • shallow breathing
  • limpness
  • blue lips, gums, or fingertips
  • slow or irregular heartbeat or pulse

Naloxone is safe and effective in reversing an overdose and keeping someone alive until EMS arrives. The nasal spray is available over the counter in North Carolina at most pharmacies.
